The government has mobilized resources and personnel across various departments to focus on source reduction, which involves eliminating mosquito breeding sites. Asha workers and volunteers have been tasked with conducting door-to-door visits to educate residents and ensure compliance with preventive measures.
Here are the main guidelines, including penalties and strict directives issued by Karanataka government to stop the spread of Dengue:
Prevention of Mosquito Breeding:
Responsibilities of Owners/Occupiers: All owners, occupiers, and persons in charge of any land or building must take necessary measures to prevent mosquito breeding. This includes:
- Ensuring water storage containers, sumps, and overhead tanks are securely covered.
- Disposing of solid waste to prevent water accumulation.
- Avoiding the storage of empty vessels, unused tyres, and other items that can retain water and promote mosquito breeding.
- Preventing water collection in unused tanks, pits, or burrows.
- Construction Sites: Measures must be taken at construction sites to prevent the accumulation of water and mosquito breeding.
Powers of Competent Authority: The competent authority (Chief Commissioner of BBMP or Deputy Commissioner of the district) is empowered to inspect properties and issue directions to ensure compliance with mosquito prevention measures.
Inspection Rights: The authority can inspect any land or building between sunrise and sunset after giving reasonable notice. The owner or occupier must facilitate the inspection and provide necessary information.
Notice for Remedial Action: If mosquito breeding is found, the authority can issue a notice requiring action within a specified time, not less than 24 hours, to eliminate the breeding grounds using suitable methods (physical, chemical, or biological).
