Health secy Chandra satisfied with progress of AIIMS Guwahati

He conducted a comprehensive review of the progress of AIIMS Guwahati, underscoring govt’s commitment to enhance healthcare infrastructure and services in the northeastern region of India, stated an official release from the institute.
“AIIMS Guwahati holds immense promise in transforming the healthcare landscape of the northeast. The govt is dedicated to enhancing quality healthcare services for the people of the region,” said Chandra.
He emphasised increasing the number of functional IPD beds and operational services. “He also laid stresses on the importance of leveraging technology and innovation to strengthen the healthcare system,” said the release, adding that Chandra suggested the institute collaborate with technical institutes like IIT Guwahati. Chandra insisted on the need for collaborative efforts among the govt, healthcare institutions, and stakeholders to realise the full potential of the AIIMS Guwahati.
Approximately 98.63 per cent of the construction work of the AIIMS Guwahati has been completed.
Prof Ashok Puranik, executive director of AIIMS Guwahati, made a comprehensive presentation on the progress of the institute in the areas of quality medical education, patient care, and cutting-edge research. The meeting was attended by faculty members, officers, staff, and students of the institute.
Chandra engaged with key stakeholders, including officials from the institute, healthcare professionals, and project managers (HITES and NCC), to assess the status of ongoing work and initiatives, and to chart out future strategies for enhancing healthcare delivery in the region.
