Health min inspects PHC, highlights expanded vaccine access

Trichy: Health minister Ma Subramanian conducted a surprise inspection at the primary health centre (PHC) in Samayapuram near Trichy on Sunday, reviewing the administration of the anti-rabies vaccine (ARV) to a minor boy bitten by a dog.

The minister emphasized the government's efforts to make life-saving vaccines more accessible. "Under the previous government, vaccines for snake and dog bites were available only at District Headquarters Hospitals and government medical colleges. After the DMK government took charge, PHCs and sub-health centres were equipped with ASV (anti-snake venom) and ARV vaccines, ensuring quicker treatment for patients," he said.

During the visit, the minister also assessed the infrastructure needs of the Samayapuram PHC.

Earlier in the day, the minister inaugurated 15 new health facilities in Perambalur district, built at a cost of ₹8.1 crore. He announced that the state government plans to address the 2,553 doctor vacancies projected by 2026. The Medical Services Recruitment Board has already conducted recruitment examinations at 156 centres across the state, and the vacancies will be filled in a single phase, he added.
