Lucknow: To improve facilities and services at govt hospitals, the state govt has decided to collect daily feedback from patients and their attendants.

Additionally, the food safety and drug administration (FSDA) will now be responsible for regularly checking the quality of food served to patients.

According to instructions issued by principal secretary, medical health, family welfare and medical education, Partha Sarthi Sen Sharma, all chief medical superintendents and hospital in-charges should inspect hospital premises twice a day — once before OPD hours and at night.

"Hospitals must ensure that patients and attendants are more involved in assessing services. The quality of meals will undergo surprise checks, and hospital management is expected to remain alert to any shortcomings.

The condition of safety and emergency equipment such as oxygen plants, CT scans, X-rays, and ultrasound machines will also be reviewed during inspections to ensure they are fully functional," he said.

The directive also emphasised the inspection of electrical and fire safety systems. He directed the officials to regularly assess these facilities as part of their preparedness.

To ensure better monitoring, hospital heads have been asked to include local dignitaries nominated by the respective district magistrates, who are part of the patient welfare committee, in the inspection process.

Their feedback should be compiled and forwarded to the director general of medical and health through the additional divisional director, the principal secretary said.
