FDA cancels 4 chemist licences in Gurugram
The food and drug administration (FDA) of Gurugram has cancelled the licences of four chemists for various violations, including operating without a pharmacist, poor record-keeping of sale of medicines, dispensing medicines without valid prescriptions and not maintaining records of schedule H1 drugs like higher antibiotics, and suspended the licences of four others for selling pregnancy termination kits without prescriptions.
The FDA crackdown, officials said, aimed at checking the menace of irrational use of antibiotics. During their investigations into each case, FDA officials found mismatches in the tally of stock and sale of drugs. “All the chemists initially received show-cause notices. Depending on their responses, their licences have been terminated or suspended,” said Parminder Malik, senior drug controller, Gurugram. The licences will stay suspended for five to 90 days, Malik added.
