In a special sitting constituted on Sunday, the first bench of Chief Justice Sanjay Vijay Kumar Gangapurwala and Justice D Bharatha Chakravarthy wanted to know as to what would happen to surgeries, scans and other things that are scheduled in the morning session on January 22.
“Anything that is emergent will not be stopped. Planned surgeries alone will be rescheduled,” additional solicitor general ARL Sundaresan said.
The ASG made the submission on a PIL moved by a resident of Puducherry challenging the declaration of half day holiday to the hospital in view of Ram temple consecration.
As per a circular issued by the hospital authorities on Friday, half day holiday (from morning till 2.30 pm) has been declared to JIPMER in view of Ram temple consecration.
To this ASG submitted that all the emergency surgeries, MRI and other scans will be done in the forenoon on Monday and only planned surgeries will be rescheduled at the earliest possible date.
Necessary workforce will be there in the forenoon session too and regular work will be commenced after 2.30 pm, he added.
Recording the submissions, the court observed that patients who would require dialysis and other services would not be put to inconvenience.
To this, ASG submitted that medical superintendents will be available in the forenoon also to attend such emergencies.
Recording the same, the bench disposed of the PIL.
