Many pregnant women working in rural and urban areas have to work to earn their livelihood till the last stage of pregnancy. Many are forced to continue working after delivery. Such hard work adversely affects the health of pregnant women and newborns.
To curb this practice and reduce maternal and child mortality, the ministry of women and child development had launched PMMVY on January 1, 2017. Around 65,592 beneficiaries have been registered in Chandrapur district under this scheme, out of which 62,169 beneficiaries have received collective aid of over Rs28.47 crore.
But Chandrapur emerged as the lone topper with 50 marks in the urban group. Sangli secured second position (48 marks) and Ahmednagar, Dhule and Pune were adjudged third (46 marks) in urban groups.
