Gandhi medical college, peoples university to be part of Covaxin trial
Two medical colleges in Bhopal, Gandhi Medical College (GMC) and Peoples University are to be part of Phase 3 trials of Covaxin— India's indigenous Covid-19 vaccine developed in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and National Institute of Virology (NIV).
The trial mooted by Telangana based, Bharat Biotech will be conducted in partnership with ICMR.
Phase 3 trials will involve 26,000 volunteers across 25 locations in India. The Clinical Trials Registry- India (CTRI) registered trial has been approved by the Drugs Controller General of India. It awaits approval of the institutional ethics committee of GMC and People’s university, according to CTRI.
Teams from ICMR and vaccine manufacture, conducted inspections at Gandhi Medical College and People's Medical College in Bhopal. The countdown to the vaccine trial will begin as soon as the final agreement is made, said sources.
