Cuba working on cancer vaccines: Aleida Guevara

Hyderabad: Telangana State Planning Board vice-chairman B Vinod Kumar said Cuba has been working on providing vaccines for Alzheimer's, lung cancer, cervical cancer, and other cancers at cheaper rates.

He made the statement following an interaction with Aleida Guevara, daughter of Cuban revolutionary leader Ernesto 'Che' Guevara at an event in the city on Sunday.

Aleida, who is also a doctor, told Vinod Kumar that Cuba was coming up with vaccines for deadly diseases which are in the final stages of manufacturing. She also spoke to him about manufacturing of vaccines in Hyderabad.

"The big developed countries generally market and make money by coming up with vaccines for diseases, but Cuba is thinking of helping humankind," he said. Aleida said her country was focusing on providing medical services to poor apart from eradicating deadly diseases.
