Cipla Health launches anti-viral nasal spray to protect against SARS-CoV-2 virus
The spray can potentially kill the disease causing viruses and bacteria in the nose itself which multiple studies have shown is a key entry point for the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
Pharma major Cipla's health segment informed that the spray has been developed after research on Povidone Iodine showed that it offers protection against Coronavirus and respiratory tract illnesses. It can be effectively utilised in treating and protecting essential service workers with its antiviral properties.
According to the company statement, the Povidone Iodine molecule is used in the spray has anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal properties that can offer protection against viruses and other germs that cause common upper respiratory tract illnesses like, cold, sinusitis or flu.
"The molecule has over the years been used in products such as gargle solution, ointments and creams. However it has never been associated with a nasal spray. " Cipla Health suggested and informed that this innovation can ensure potential insulation at grass-root stages of infection.
"The spray can potentially kill the disease causing viruses and bacteria in the nose itself which multiple studies have shown is a key entry point for the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The spray can thus effectively make use of topical antiviral drugs at the nasal region for preventive care. It can be used as an everyday preventive aid for nasal care as people move towards normalcy," the statement added.
Commenting on the launch of nasal spray that can provide protection against COVID, ShivamPuri, CEO , Cipla Health Ltd said, “It is one of the most innovative and effective product formulations for preventive care against coronavirus. Adding Naselin Antiviral Nasal Spray To our regular routine along with wearing masks, washing hands, and maintaining social distance can definitely help us to fight this pandemic together.”
The 15ml spray bottle priced at Rs 99 will be made available across 700 Apollo and Medplus pharmacies in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana as well as online e-commerce platforms.
