CDSCO's new intelligence cell to check illegal activity in India’s pharma sector

NEW DELHI: The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO), India’s central drug regulator, has set up a nine-member intelligence cell to track illegal activity in the country’s pharmaceutical sector.

This includes gathering information on the medicines and cosmetics imported or exported against the law and investigating complaints related to medicine quality received from overseas regulatory agencies, according to an office order dated March 26.

The intelligence cell will be in charge of collecting and collating information on activities carried out in contravention to the provisions of the Drugs & Cosmetics Act, 1940, stated the order, which ET has seen.

It will also assist in raids in collaboration with zonal and sub-zonal offices. It added.
