Mylab launches Compact XL to automate molecular diagnostic tests

New Delhi: Pune-based Mylab Discovery Solutions on Tuesday launched ‘Compact XL’ a machine claimed to fully automate the manual lab operations and test multiple samples concurrently including RT-PCR tests for COVID-19.

Priced at Rs 40 lakh, the automated system can run 32 samples every hour which can be increased. The cartridge-based machine can be used for a wide range of RNA/DNA-based tests and can take a variety of sample types such as plasma, tissue, sputum and swab.

Earlier in March, the molecular diagnostics company was also the first one to develop and get CDSCO commercial approval for its indigenous Mylab PathoDetect Covid-19 qualitative PCR Kit.

“Compact XL will replace the need of 700 sq ft of cleanroom lab with a 4x3 benchtop machine and reduce the need of 3-4 expert technicians to just one, thus saving operational costs for labs. From a patients’ perspective, automated processes will eliminate errors and improve accuracy,” Hasmukh Rawal, MD, Mylab Discovery Solutions said.

According to the company, the Made-in-India Compact XL will be available for pre-ordering starting 13 July 2020.

It will eliminate traditional barriers to the adoption of molecular diagnostics at labs and address any potential demand-supply gaps of highly skilled technicians for testing,” said Adar Poonawalla, CEO of the Serum Institute of India (SII).

Recently, Mylab had partnered with Serum India CEO Adar Poonawalla and AP Globale Chairman Abhijit Pawar to scale up the operations and escalate faster delivery of its COVID-19 testing kits.
