Experts highlight opportunities in healthcare sector

KANPUR: Startup Incubation and Innovation Centre (SIIC), IIT-Kanpur in collaboration with Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC), Government of India, organized a session on entrepreneurial opportunities in healthcare here on Wednesday.

The event named ‘unboxing entrepreneurial opportunities in healthcare innovations’ laid special emphasis on medical devices and artificial intelligence and machine learning-enabled platforms in healthcare.

The event included a brainstorming session on understanding the opportunities and challenges associated with healthcare innovations and how BIRAC is playing an active role as an enabler. Yogesh, technical officer at BIRAC presented various funding schemes and initiatives conducted by BIRAC followed by curtain raiser of the upcoming Global BioIndia Summit-2019 by Amarnath Shukla, the IT head of BIRAC.

The Global BioIndia-2019 to be held from November 21 and November 22 will see participation by national and international scientists, innovators, startups, investors and other major stakeholders in the biotechnology sector.

Startup Incubation and Innovation Centre (SIIC), IIT-K was established in the year 2000 with Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI). It is one of the oldest technology business incubators with many successes under its belt such as Curadev Biopharma, Weather-Risk Advisory, GeoKno, E-spin Nanotech, Aarav Unmanned Systems, and HelpUsGreen.

With a fair share of successful as well as failed start-ups in the portfolio of more than 120 startups, having raised hundreds of crores and generated more than 3000 jobs, SIIC has developed the experience base and eco-system that become key ingredients in the development of early-stage, technology-focused start-ups spanning across the domains of agriculture, healthcare, aerospace, energy, water and education.
