Vitamin-D management is vital for diabetes patients: Dr Ramkumar
Noted diabetic physician and Andhra Pradesh diabetes federation president Dr VV Ramkumar has observed failure to manage vitamin-D is leading to more troubles among the diabetes patients.
Dr Ramkumar made a presentation during an international conference held in Jaipur on Monday. Addressing the delegates, Dr Ramkumar said that many were ignoring moving in sunlight in spite of the fact that it is easily available without paying anything.
"Millions of people in India are suffering from vitamin-D deficiency notwithstanding the fact that many regions of the country witnesses high temperatures during the day time. Vitamin-D plays a crucial role in preventing and also keeping diabetes under check. Many side-effects, particularly with regard to the bone strength among diabetes patients, could be managed without much trouble if vitamin-D levels are properly managed," said the doctor.
"Calcium density in the bones would be increased with proper levels of vitamin-D. He said that deficiency of vitamin-D would also be managed with oral pills if needed," He said.
Diabetes India and international diabetes federation chief Dr Sadikot handed over the diabetes India fellowship to Dr Ramkumar.
