Vadodara to host World Congress 2019
The World Congress will mark the 70 years of Baroda Medical College (BMC).
The World Congress will mark the 70 years of Baroda Medical College (BMC). It will be one of the largest ever alumni meet that will see the presence of nearly 150 NRI doctors settled in different parts of the world.
The event will be inaugurated by Dr Damodar Nene, who is an alumnus from the first batch of the BMC on Saturday.
Usually, after a gap of every five years the alumni association organizes the conference. However this time, it is after a gap of 10 years that the government medical college is hosting the Congress that will be held with the theme of ‘futuristic medicine’.
“We will have alumni right from the first batch to the recent pass-outs who will take part in this Congress. The BMC is the oldest medical college of Gujarat which had made humble beginnings with the first batch of 40 students who passed out in 1954. Presently, after approval from the Medical Council of India, we are running the first batch of 250 students,” said dean Dr A T Leuva.
“During the conference, we will have 38 experts talks through which our alumni will share their expertise in their respective fields. Also, the winners of the essay competition that was organized for students will be felicitated. There will also be a talent evening where our alumni will showcase their talents,” said vice-dean Dr Yogesh Marfatia.
A live surgery workshop on head and neck cancer will be also organized as part of pre conference. Every batch will have its own batch wise reunion at the medical college where entertainment programme and kite flying have also been planned for them.
“We are all proud of the contributions of the BMC which provided us the strong foundation for all the success that we could achieve in our fields,” said NRI Dr Ajeet Kothari, who is the chair of the board of trustees of the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin and also heads the BMC Alumni Association in the United States.
