Uttar Pradesh: Complaints pile up against doctors in non-Covid services
Doctors refusing duty, 'posting objectionable content' on social media and the health administration facing accusations of harassment are just some of the problems that the health department has been facing ever since the restoration of general services in the district.
According to officials, there have been multiple complaints regarding medical duties. They said that a report has been sent to the district health department and the state government in the matter.
In one case, a senior doctor posted at the district combined hospital has refused to perform his duties in three categories — post-mortem, VIP and in the emergency ward. The doctor had also refused to perform his duties in the Covid ward citing ill health.
Also, sources in the hospital said there were allegations against the doctor of posting objectionable posts on political leaders on social media. When the matter came to light, he apologised stating the posts were uploaded by a kid from his family. An investigation in the matter, ordered by the minister of state for health, is under way. A senior health official said that the CMS of the combined hospital has provided information about two doctors who have denied to work in the hospital.
In the second case, two doctors posted at a community health centre accused the administration of the medical facility of harassing them. The doctor couple, an anaesthetist and a gynaecologist, posted at Muradnagar CHC sent a complaint letter to the director of the national health mission alleging harassment.
The couple stated that only they take care of Caesarean deliveries and other surgeries at CHC. The anaesthetist alleged that despite the presence of seven emergency medical officers in the CHC, he is being forced to do 24 hours of emergency duty. He alleged that this would hamper surgical work being carried out by them.
The couple added that the trouble started earlier this month when they sought incentives for their work. Meanwhile, CHC Dr Kailash Chand has refused the allegation levelled by them. Chief medical superintendent Dr Sanjay Teotia said he had apprised the state government as well as health department about these issues.
