UPSC recommends Rajeev Singh Raghuvanshi as next DCGI
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has recommended to the government Rajeev Singh Raghuvanshi as the successor to Dr V G Somani, whose extended tenure will end mid-February. The UPSC recommendation has to be approved by the Health Ministry, followed by approval of the Appointments Committee of Cabinet led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Earlier on November 16 last year, the tenure of Dr VG Somani the DCGI was extended by three months for the second time. He also got an extension in the month of August 2022.
The DCGI heads the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) which is responsible for ensuring quality drug supply across the country. It also has the authority to approve new drugs and regulate clinical trials.
