UP to get 11 new medical colleges, 1,000 more seats
As many as 11 new medical colleges will be opening in the state in the next two years, said principal secretary medical education Anoop Chandra Pandey at a function at KGMU on Monday.
"Relevant clearance from Medical Council of India has been obtained and in two years, these colleges would create over 1,000 more medical seats in the state," Pandey said, adding, "Only eight medical colleges could come up between 1947 and 2012. Compared to this, development in the past five years has been remarkable."
He said seats in post graduate courses were being increased to provide teaching staff to the new medical colleges. Pandey said reforms have taken place to benefit nursing and paramedical staff too.
No project delay: To ensure that health projects in KGMU and other parts of UP complete on time, state government has adopted 'turn-key' formula. Stating this at KGMU on Monday, chief minister Akhilesh Yadav said, "An agency will ensure there is no delay in the project. Deadlines will also be fixed for the agency."
