“This means that the Covid-19 recovery rate under home isolation is around 71%,” additional chief secretary, health and family welfare, Amit Mohan Prasad said, adding that of the total 2.19 lakh cases in UP, 1.62 lakh have recovered.
The statistics showed that UP’s overall recovery rate is 74.1% and in this way, the recovery rate under home isolation is less than the overall rate. Prasad said that there were 53,360 active infections in the state. “Over 50% of these cases are under home isolation,” he said.
Stating that Covid-19 care under home isolation was a joint responsibility of the patient and health teams, additional chief secretary medical education, Dr Rajneesh Dube said: “Only strict adherence to home isolation protocol could help in beating the virus. Any deviation from the dos and don'ts can cost life. I would urge people that if they are not confident of following the drill they must get themselves admitted to the government facility.”
To note secondary and tertiary level Covid-19 hospitals — mainly state medical colleges and institutes — have noted a surge in number of patients under home isolation landing to the hospital with deteriorated condition.
Experts said that patients under home isolation must keep track of their temperature and oxygen levels and not wait for the commonly known warning sign of breathlessness to contact the doctor. “Breathlessness begins when damage to the lungs has set in. Patients must press the alarm bells the moment their oxygen level goes below 94,” said Dr Dube.
Meanwhile, 5,684 fresh cases of coronavirus infection were reported in the past 24 hours. With this, the state tally reached 2.19 lakh with spikes being recorded in Lucknow (664), Gorakhpur (367), Prayagraj (306), Kanpur (300) and Varanasi (182), besides Shahjahanpur (190) and Moradabad (188). The state also recorded 67 deaths taking the total to 3,356. Kanpur Nagar and Prayagraj saw seven deaths each. Officials expressed concern over Covid-19 deaths crossing 400 mark in Kanpur to reach 418.
