Thiruvananthapuram : Talks held to boost jobs for medical pros in Ireland
In a bid to strengthen the state’s tie-ups with Ireland in the health sector and to extend maximum job opportunities for doctors and nurses from Kerala, state health minister K K Shailaja held talks with Sandeep Kumar, the Indian ambassador to Ireland, here on Wednesday.
Ireland is a big job market, especially for nurses, and talks were held with the Indian ambassador there to tap into this market for our nurses, the minister said in a statement issued after the talks.
“Ireland is a country which has achieved immense progress in the health sector, and the plan is for mutual sharing of advanced knowledge in the sector and to cooperate in maximum areas. There’s also immense potential for AYUSH sector in Ireland and the state is thinking of launching ‘yoga chair’ in hospitals over there,” the minister said.
Around 20,000 among the total of 45,000 Indians including doctors and nurses working in Ireland are Malayalis, said Sandeep Kumar, adding that the hardworking and caring nature of Malayali nurses increased their demand. “Ireland is interested in cooperating with Kerala in the fields of research, AYUSH, yoga, health tourism and ayurveda tourism,” he said.
Kumar also held talks with tourism minister Kadakampally Surendran and assured that opportunities would be created for chefs from the state to introduce Kerala’s delicacies to people of Ireland. He also invited both the ministers to Ireland for further talks for strengthening the bilateral relations.
