‘Thinning fear and pandemic fatigue led to Covid spurt’
A three-member central team that visited the state early March has attributed a lack of fear of the disease and pandemic fatigue as among key factors behind the February surge in Covid cases.
The team observed that the virus is spreading to unaffected areas, although most cases are asymptomatic. It said political leaders and doctors, may themselves not be following Covid-appropriate behaviour.
The observations were shared by the Centre after the team visited the state on March 1 and 2. The health machinery also may have become lax after cases came down after September, it said.
