Thane : 40% rise in skin infections due to rising heat: Docs
The harsh ultraviolet (UV) rays and soaring temperature has lead to a 40% rise in skin infection cases, claim city-based doctors.
The doctors said that the scorching sun and high humidity levels causes one to sweat a lot and this result in skin ailments like excessive itching, fungal infection, pigmentation and much more.
“We have seen a 40% rise in the number of patients suffering from ailments like ringworms, photo ageing and other skin-related problems. These infections usually spread because people use any cream by just asking a pharmacist when they get an infection. The problem then aggravates and the infection increases. Also, while shopping many try out clothes before buying them. So, if a person who has a skin infection has tried out an outfit then it can spead to another person who has tried out the same garment,” said Dr. Vishalakshi Viswanath, head of department of dermatology at Kalwa hospital.
Doctors said that they have been receiving many young patients as well who have been suffering from photo ageing, which is getting wrinkles under the eyes and lines under the lips. This mainly takes place because of using moisturisers or creams that are not suitable for the skin. Due to this, there is peeling of the skin and then the skin becomes even more sensitive.
Many even suffer from prickly heat. Doctors have advised denizens to take the necessary precautions to avoid such ailments.
“To avoid any fungal infection, residents should wear loose clothes, preferably cotton, so that the sweat is absorbed. One should cover their face and hands with a scarf or gloves, drink plenty of water, apply sunscreen which is prescribed by doctors. Also, eat juicy fruits like watermelon, wear sunglasses to protect the skin around the eyes and keep their body clean by having bath twice a day,” said Dr. P R Ghuse, dermatologist.
