Siemens Healthineers will manufacture mobile Carm radiology system Cios Fit and computer tomography (CT) systems from its platform Somatom go.now for India and other emerging markets.
The C-arm radiology system is the first product conceptualised, designed and manufactured fully in India by the company. It’s targeted at government-run hospitals, as also private ones. The other product was till now being manufactured only in China, executive director of Siemens Healthcare Vivek Kanade said.
The business will compete in India with GE Healthcare and Philips, both of which have a strong local presence, both in R&D and manufacturing. “Over the years, the (Siemens) R&D centre at Bengaluru has grown into a digital hub for the company accounting for over half of all the software engineering talent within Siemens Healthineers. Is is also the largest such centre within the company globally,” Gerd Hoefner, MD and president of Siemens Healthcare, said. Till date the company has invested Rs 2,500 crore in the centre.
Siemens is looking to sell a combined 450 units of the medical equipment every year and expects a growth of 10-12% for the next few years. While it will start with 70 employees, it plans to ramp up the workforce in three phases by 2025.
