‘Rural service must for medical students from govt colleges’
Students from government medical colleges will have to compulsorily complete rural posting or bond service, Maharashtra medical education minister Girish Mahajan
Mahajan said the main aim of medical education department was to provide quality medical care to people from the poorest sections of society.
“The government is committed to provide good quality medical care for six crore adivasi and rural population through the medium of qualified doctors. Newly qualified doctors will understand the need for healthcare in adivasi parts and realise their social responsibility. They will gain a good experience from this posting,” he said.

Mahajan refuted the charge that the government’s decision had come at the last minute as information about the bond is given in the first year itself.
The state government is formulating a new set of guidelines to implement the rural posting criterion in a transparent manner.
Mahajan said doctors, who took admission to colleges since 2010 and have subsequently completed their degrees, will have to complete their bond service in the next two years.
