Robotic bariatric surgery has resulted in more precision, lesser complications, inform experts
Obesity is the fifth leading risk of deaths, resulting in around 2.8 million deaths of adults globally every year. The population at risk of developing overweight should be made aware about the reduction process, preventing it from contributing to severe health risks.
The discussion organized by PHDCCI saw experts spread relevant knowledge and sharing dialogues of expertise on persistent health concerns pertaining to ‘Obesity’ and ‘Overweight’ as well as other related issues that pose a major threat to physical wellbeing.
Highlighting the advantages of using robotic technology in surgeries, Prof. (Dr.) Ranjan Sudan, Professor of Surgery, Duke University informed about the contributing factors that lead to medical cases of overweight and obesity as well as use of robots in the process of bariatric surgeries. Advantages such as precision, lesser loss of blood, lower level of post-op complexities and gave insights on the correlation between lower self-esteem, productivity and obesity.

Increased sedentary lifestyles and the intake of unhealthy diet has increased the instances of obesity worldwide, further risking the development of complex health issues.
Highlighting how obesity leads to negative health consequences, Pradeep Multani, President, PHDCCI informed “Obesity is the most common consequence of over nutrition and has long-term negative health consequences. An increased prevalence of obesity is linked to health risks for numerous non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and some cancers.”
Health experts at the conference highlighted the need for increased awareness on preventive measures and healthy lifestyles. The population at risk of developing obesity or have developed the disease already should be made aware about the obesity reduction process, preventing it from contributing to severe health risks.
Dr Harsh Mahajan, Chair, Hospital and Diagnostics Committee, PHDCCI highlighted on the need for sparking awareness amongst people and severity of health issues such as obesity, along with precautionary steps that must be taken in order to avoid it, such as following a mindful daily diet and regular exercising.
