Programme for Indian docs to train in England

Nagpur: Global Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (GAPIO) has launched a medical training initiative (MTI) for Indian doctors.

MBBS doctors qualified for this programme will soon get an opportunity to get training in UK for two years, said Dr Ashok Khandelwal, director of British Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (BAPIO), a wing of GAPIO on Saturday.

Khandelwal was in city to inform about the tenth annual international conference of GAPIO scheduled to be organized here from January 3 to 5.

“The theme of the conference is ‘Excellence in health care through quality and innovation. The conference is being held in Nagpur for the first time. Nagpur will be the first non-metro in India to host this conference so far,” said Khandelwal.

Formal inauguration of the conference will be held at the auditorium complex of Kingsway Hospitals at 12.40pm on January 4. Senior physician BJ Subhedar will be the chief guest while social worker Dr Vikas Amte will be the guest of honour.

Association of Medical Sciences (AMS), Academy of Paediatricians (API) and Nagpur branch of Indian Medical Association (IMA) have extended support to the conference.

Conference secretary Dr Prakash Khetan said, “This event aims to provide an international forum to physicians of Indian origin. All academic sessions will be held at Kingsway Hospitals auditorium complex, near Kasturchand Park. Many international faculties will deliver lectures on scientific agenda.”
