PCMSA urges govt to hire more staff for Aam Aadmi Clinics

The association felt that rural emergency services were likely to be affected as the PCMS doctors, posted at various primary health centres across the state, had been entrusted with the job of running the 400 odd new Aam Aadmi Clinics.
“We have apprised the higher authorities of the imminent crisis and have urged the government to recruit additional staff via regular channels for the Aam Aadmi Clinics instead of deputing the existing PCMS doctors, involved in maintaining 24x7 services at the block level,” said Dr Akhil Sarin, state president, PCMSA.
He said the PCMSA would like to suggest a “more holistic expansion of the health services” in the state in a way that the government should go ahead with their poll promise of opening the Aam Aadmi Clinics, but should also focus on filling up the vacancies in the already existing healthcare set up.
Out of the sanctioned strength of just over 4,000 government doctors, nearly 1,000 posts are lying vacant at present. Interestingly, this cadre strength is as per the 1991 cadre review. No cadre review has been done in the state since the last three decades.
These PCMS doctors posted at the primary health centres, now upgraded to Aam Aadmi Clinics, along with the doctors posted at the block community health centres were instrumental in managing round-the-clock emergency services at the block levels even in the backdrop of acute shortage of MBBS doctors – emergency medical officers – in the state.
