Patients, survivors of breast cancer get tips on ‘new normal’
From sharing tips on beating the heat to eating right, especially after chemotherapy, to explaining the ‘new normal’ for breast cancer patients and survivors, King George’s Medical University (KGMU) celebrated Mother’s Day with breast cancer survivors through a virtual event on
Organised by the medical university’s endocrine surgery department, the event attempted to touch upon the feelings and problems of mothers who get breast cancer.
“There can be changes in your body due to cancer, chemotherapy, hair loss, or physical changes to your breasts, but you should try and stay optimistic as early diagnosis have led to several women getting cancer-free,” said Dr Anand Mishra, head of the department, who has formed the Lucknow Breast Cancer Support group.
The group includes women from across UP.
“Mothers who get breast cancer are all the more troubled as they feel they are unable to give the best to their children due to their own mental and physical health, but they should not be hard on themselves. They should live their life to the fullest and enjoy it even more once they get cancer-free,” he added.
Tips on what to eat and wear during summers, especially during and after chemotherapy, were shared by Dr Pooja of the department.
