Patiala: 2-year-old dies after being administered wrong drug, doctor booked
A doctor of Ghaggar Sarai village in Patiala district has been booked in connection with the death of a two-year-old child who was suffering from cough and cold. The doctor allegedly administered a wrong medicine to the child.
Dr Garja Singh, the accused, was already facing criminal charges in a similar case pertaining to a five-year-old kid who is still hospitalised with kidney infection at PGI Chandigarh.
The Shambu police have registered the case under sections of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against Singh and his son Kulwinder Singh. The accused is still at large.
Police said that in the recent case, it came to light that the complainant Pardeep Kumar of Khairpur village had visited the doctor with his two-year-old son on February 19 for treatment of cough and cold.
The accused gave the baby a wrong medicine. The family went to the doctor again when boy's health deteriorated on February 20. The doctor again administered the same medicine that led to the infection in the kidneys of the toddler. The family then took him to another doctor from where the boy was referred for a higher institute. The boy had undergone treatment at a government hospital in Sector 32 in Chandigarh.
The police said that a case was registered based on the reports from the government hospital in both the incidents and hunt was on to nab the accused.
