Madurai: The National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) evaluation team, conducted an inspection at the K Pudur urban primary health centre (UPHC) in Madurai on Monday.

According to a release, the NQAS programme is part of a national initiative aimed at improving the quality of services provided by UPHCs through a series of evaluations at various levels, including self-assessment, state-level evaluation, and final reviews by the central govt.

The inspection covered a thorough evaluation of the services provided at the centre, including the laboratory, inventory of medicines, and maintenance of medical records. Mayor Indrani Ponvasanth was present to oversee the inspection process and reviewed the medical services provided at the centre.

Mayor and with the evaluation team visited various departments and interacted with patients to observe medical examinations being carried out.

NQAS certification is awarded to PHCs that meet stringent quality standards, with continuous evaluations conducted to ensure improvements are sustained.

In a separate event, mayor inaugurated two new ration shops in Keerathurai Thayumanavar Sami Nagar. These shops were built at a cost of Rs17.3 lakh from the South Madurai Legislative Assembly Development Fund.
