Naturopath moves HC to quash case

KOCHI: Naturopathy practitioner Jacob Vadakkanchery has approached the high court seeking to quash the case registered against him for spreading misleading information about allopathic medicines used to prevent rat fever post floods.

In a social media post, the petitioner had allegedly questioned the authenticity of the recommendation made by state government’s health department for using antibiotic doxycycline as a preventive medicine for leptospirosis. After a case was registered by cyber cell, Thiruvananthapuram, he was arrested.

In the petition, he contended that there was nothing to attract the offences alleged against him. The only allegation in the FIR is that he has attempted to create fear among the public. There is nothing on record to show that any patient read the publication and refused to take the medicine, the petition said
