Most sexologists are just quacks, says top PGI doc
“People must not fall into the trap of sexologists or quacks running their own businesses for sex solutions", said Prof Kumar.
“People must not fall into the trap of sexologists or quacks running their own businesses for sex solutions. Male patient should approach a urologist while females should consult a gynecologist for sex related problems. Both these medical professions are recognised from the medical perspective globally, and only their reports and procedures ensure its treatment,” Prof Kumar said.
He said that a patient generally faces three types of sexual problems sexual dysfunction, sexually transmitted diseases and reproductive health cases. According to statistics shared by Prof Kumar, India is emerging as the ‘impotence capital of the world’ with an alarming pace. “According to a research, 35% of men before the age of forty face some sexual problem. But the surprising fact is that 42% of the men look for cheap treatment option, not medicines prescribed by doctors, which may prove fatal,” he said,
He said, “Statistics give more shocking pictures in relationships as 28% women got separated from their partners because of this factor. Impotence dominates the impression of stress, hopelessness, anxiety and lack of energy.”
Risk factors for impotence include sedentary lifestyle, smoking, age, obesity, excessive drug use and stress. Cautioning about the ill effects of excessive pornography and masturbation, Dr Santosh advised the youth to break away from it and associate themselves with social activities as well as sports and adventure.
He suggested that patients with impotence or erectile dysfunction, who do not respond to medicines, can be successfully treated through penile implant surgery, which is effective as well as safe.
