Man held for conducting sonography without registration

JAIPUR: Director of a sonography centre at Chaksu of Jaipur district, was arrested for allegedly conducting sonography without having any registration under Pre-Conception Pre-Natal Diagnostic Technique (PCPNDT) Act, on Sunday.


According to the health department officials, under the provisions of PCPNDT Act, only a registered sonologist or doctor can conduct sonography at a registered sonography centre. State appropriate authority (PCPNDT) chairperson Navin Jain said, for the past few days, they were receiving information about a person conducting sonography of pregnant women, who did not have any registration. After verification of the information, they conducted a decoy operation to nab the accused red-handed. The PCPNDT cell conducted a decoy operation with the help of a pregnant woman at Viraj X-ray and diagnostic centre. The officials found that one Umakant Dhakad, director of the diagnostic centre, was allegedly conducting sonography. The PCPNDT cell officials also seized the sonography machine of the centre.

Jain said that Dr Satish Vyas had been authorised for conducting sonography at the centre by the health department. Dhakad was not authorised and he did not have any eligibility for conducting sonography.
