Kozhikode corporation issues birth, death certificates online

KOZHIKODE: Mayor A K Premajam launched the online issual of death and birth certificates at the corporation at a function held at Town Hall here on Monday. With this scheme, people need not visit the corporation office to obtain certificates.

The move was carried out under e-governance scheme of the city corporation under the 12th five year plan for the financial year 2014-2015. The initiative was carried out with the Kerala State electronics development corporationLltd (keltron) and Information Kerala Mission (IKM).

Public can download the death and birth certificate applications by just clicking the link ‘online birth, death and marriage certificate’ which is provided on the website http://kozhikodecorporation.org. Applicant only has to enter name and basic details and on giving verification of word, they can download the certificate. The civic body has set up special server room and computers to carry out online update of death and birth upon getting information from the various hospital kiosks in the corporation limit.

It saves a lot of time and effort for public, and makes even corrections easy. The civic body has also completed online uploading of birth and death registrations since 1970.

An official dealing with civil registrations at the corporation office said that public needs to visit the office only to make corrections and changes in date of birth or names in the certificates.

Health standing committee chairperson Janamma Kunjunni said that the e-governance initiative has lowered the manual work of officials. “The civic body will be made 200% eco-friendly soon,” she said.
