Kohli blood bank gets show cause notice
Several anomalies came to the fore during food safety and drug administration's assessment of Kohli Blood Bank’s records. Based on the report, FSDA issued show cause notice to the owners of the blood bank here on Thursday.
Drug controller A K Malhotra said, “The blood bank owners have been given a week's time to answer queries.” The blood bank has been accused of running a racket of professional donors earlier this month.
Talking about the anomalies, Malhotra said, “We found fake and forged donor consent forms. They were not even signed by the medical officer in charge. In some cases, body weight of the donor was much below the standard of at least 45 kilograms.” He added that cell phones were selected randomly from the list of donors and they were found incorrect.
Earlier, acting on a complaint and directions from higher-ups, a health team raided and sealed the blood bank on August 7. The case was transferred to FSDA on August 10 which also took into custody samples collected. The samples were sent for analysis to the transfusion medicine department, King George's Medical University. On August 12, an FSDA official broke the seal of Kohli blood bank to conduct investigation.
The report was submitted on Tuesday and keeping its findings as basis, FSDA served notice on Thursday.
