The centre was inaugurated on Friday by Kalyan Loksabha MP Dr Shrikant Shinde in the presence of KDMC Chief Dr Indurani Jakhar. This centre will be run by medical experts, including trained physiotherapists, under the social development department of KDMC.
KDMC Commissioner Indurani Jakhar took this step with the aim of providing facilities to other sections of the city along with development work in the city. The centre is set up in a huge 6,000 square feet area in the KDMC's building located near Kalyan railway station.
Shrikant Shinde said, "With this facility centre at Kalyan, physically and mentally challenged persons will not have to go to Mumbai or Thane for these medical remedies, and they can avail all facilities here under one roof."
Sanjay Jadhav, Deputy Municipal Commissioner of KDMC and the brain behind the project, said, "Around 5,500 handicapped and mentally challenged people registered with KDMC will be able to take advantage of this centre. At the same time, KDMC will also provide a facility where other handicapped and mentally challenged people living in the city, not registered with KDMC, will be able to register themselves at the same centre and take advantage of the facilities."
Shrikant Shinde said, "Apart from Kalyan-Dombivli, if anyone from nearby cities like Ulhasnagar, Ambernath, or other nearby cities wants facilities, they can also take advantage of the facility at a nominal charge."
