JKCI and IIT-K conduct trial of new renal cancer drug
JK Cancer institute, a unit of Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital, and IIT-K are conducting trial of three medicines on three different types of cancers including renal cancer, head and neck cancer and metastatic colorectal cancer.
JK Cancer institute, a unit of Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital, and IIT-K are conducting trial of three medicines on three different types of cancers including renal cancer, head and neck cancer and metastatic colorectal cancer. These cancers, especially the renal cancer, is very common among the Indians which engulfs many lives every year.
The trial of these medicines is being conducted under the guidance of Prof SN Prasad and assistant professor Saraj Singh of JK Cancer institute. Anukriti Singh, a research scholar in bio-medicine from IIT-Kanpur , who is also associated with this trial, is helping the experts to prepare a final report of the trial of these medicines.
Cancer survivors felicitated: JK Cancer Institute felicitated 40 cancer patients, who have survived for more than five years without taking medicines after being treated in the institute, on the occasion of its 60th foundation day on Saturday. Foundation stone of the institute was laid by former President, Dr Rajendra Prasad in 1956.
The experts interacted with the patients. Dr Sunny Singh delivered a talk on cancer, how it is spread and what one can be done to avoid falling victim to the disease. Use of oral contraceptive pills increases the chance of ovarian cancer by 30%. As far as lung cancer is concerned, risk of getting it can be reduced upto 35% by just avoiding tobacco and its products.
