India’s new cases & deaths world’s highest on Monday

India recorded the highest count of fresh Covid-19 cases in the world for the second day running while also reporting the most daily deaths from the virus on Monday. India’s death toll, at 814, was way higher than the fatalities reported in the day in Brazil (572) and the US (568), the two countries worst hit by the pandemic, as per data from worldometers.info.

India had reported 49,134 fresh coronavirus cases on Monday, which remained higher than the count in the US (48,622) and Brazil (17,988), as per the website.
However, there was a silver lining in India’s rising Covid-19 graph on Tuesday — for the first time in weeks, active cases in the country decreased by 874 to 5,86,348, data from state governments reveals.

The drop in active cases means there are less number of people to spread the infection. This happens when the number of recoveries and deaths is higher than fresh cases per day.
