Indian doctor receives New York county honor on Independence Day
Nassau county executive Edward P Mangano hosted a programme attended by prominent community members and Indian-Americans at the Theodore Roosevelt executive and legislative building here on the occasion of the 69th Indian Independence Day.
Dr Akshat Jain was honored at the Nassau County Theodore Roosevelt executive and legislative building as part of the celebration. He was one of six Indian-American professionals recognized for contribution to the communities of Nassau county. Dr Jain was selected by county executive Mangano for the honor for his local and international work in the areas of lead poisoning, dengue fever and childhood cancers.
A pediatrician, hematologist, oncologist and stem cell transplanter at the Hofstra North Shore LIJ School of Medicine on Long Island in New York, Dr Akshat Jain hails from Jaipur, India and continues to work as the executive director of a 100-bed charitable non-profit multi-specialty hospital in Rajasthan.
Dr Jain takes care of children with cancers at the Cohen Children’s Medical Center in New Hyde Park and also teaches at the Hofstra medical school. He also serves as the advisor to Harvard University, American Cancer Society and American Academy of Pediatrics. His academic work covers cases of children with lead poisoning, dengue fever and childhood cancers.
