Income tax sleuths swoop down on prominent doctors across UP
Income Tax sleuths swooped down on establishments of six prominent doctors across UP, including Lucknow, Moradabad, Meerut and Noida, early on Thursday in search of unaccounted cash receipts and unaccounted investments. These doctors were also accused of manipulating books of accounts.
Teams of income tax officials conducted search on the bungalow of Meerut’s famous neurologist in Defence Colony and his clinic in Civil Lines area. The I-T teams also raided Dr Ankit Sharma’s GS Medical College and Hospital and Ayurveda Medical College and Hospital in Hapur, and his residence in Ghaziabad. “In Meerut, searches were conducted at Dr Bhupendra Chaudhary’s residence and clinic -- Prakash Neurological Centre.
He was unable to produce the books of accounts which were needed, which means that there are some receipts which he hasn’t disclosed. Still, we have given him an opportunity to produce the books of accounts. Many locker keys have also been found at his house,” said a highly placed source in the Income Tax department.
“During the course of the search at the medical college and hospital in Pilakhwa, which is run under Jaipal Singh Sharma Trust, the people concerned were unable to produce the books of accounts. Cash and various locker keys were also found at the spot.
“We are suspecting undisclosed income from their establishment, but that is a matter of investigation,” the sources said.
Officials also said that since no seizure order had been given, cash found in the Hapur search hasn’t been seized so far.
In Hapur, patients had a difficult time at the two hospitals during the raids as new patients and their relatives were already inside were not allowed entry here during the raids. The raids in Hapur, which started at 8am on Thursday, were completed only by late evening.
The income tax department teams started from the accounts department of the hospital where the files were examined and computer hard disk and files were taken into possession.
Raids were also conducted at locations of Dr Rajiv Motiani and Dr Gulab Gupta of the Neo Hospital in Noida and SIPS in Lucknow.
While income tax officials refused to give any statement about the searches, highly placed sources said that incriminating documents have been seized from the locations and were being probed.
