In single-day spike, Delhi records 2,948 Covid-19 cases; tally crosses 80,000-mark
The capital's Covid-19 count crossed the 80,000 mark on Saturday with 2,948 more people testing positive for the viral infection.
The total number of Covid-19 patients in the capital now stands at 80,188. The death toll due to the disease is 2,558, according to the latest health department bulletin. In the last 24 hours, officials said, 66 people died due to Covid-19.
As many as 49,301 patients have recovered, been discharged or migrated so far, while there are 28,329 active cases. The health department said 19,180 tests were conducted in the past 24 hours. The total number of Covid-19 tests carried out in the city reached 4,78,336 - 25,175 tests per million population.
In the past week, the number of new infections has grown by around 5% daily, according to government data. For every 100 confirmed cases, three have died due to the virus in the city so far and the recovery rate has increased to around 61%. Meanwhile, the availability of beds in Covid care hospitals has increased significantly. On Saturday, 7,343 (55%) of the total 13,411 beds reserved were lying vacant. "Most patients are recovering well at home. Only those with co-morbidities are required to be admitted," said a doctor from LNJP.
