The couple hailing from Warangal was initially devastated to learn that their unborn baby had a huge neck mass during a routine pregnancy scan and was advised to undergo an abortion.
Dr Sravanthi, a foetal medicine specialist, explained to them that the huge mass was obstructing the breathing tube and food pipe of the baby and that for any chance of the baby's survival, they would need to perform a very unique and rare procedure called EXIT.
Just before the delivery, a foetal medicine team performed cyst reduction to decrease the size of the mass to facilitate the delivery of the baby. The child, who is now five months old, is successfully breathing on her own.
