While one case was recorded at a private hospital in Sector 51, another was recorded at Civil Hospital. The samples were tested and found to be positive for dengue by the district health department.
Doctors expressed concern as a few dengue cases are still coming in despite the onset of winter. “The maximum temperature is still hovering between 20 and 22 degrees Celsius, which might have led to breeding of mosquito larvae. Nevertheless, it indicates that the virus is becoming stronger every year,” said Rachna Malik, a general physician.
Meanwhile, health department officials said they are still carrying out inspection drives and awareness campaigns. “While the number of dengue cases has gone down this month as compared to November, there have still been reports of a couple of cases. So, we are still carrying out inspection drives and campaigns to make the people aware about the disease,” an official said.
In total, 93 cases of dengue and three deaths due to the vector-borne disease have been recorded in the city this season. The health department has issued nearly 1,000 showcause notices to housing societies and households that were found to have mosquito breeding sites in and around their premises.
