Mangaluru: Minister of health and family welfare Dinesh Gundu Rao said that naturopathy and Yogic sciences graduates should be the ambassadors of systems of Indian medicine.

He was delivering the 29th convocation address at the SDM College of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences, Ujire on Saturday. “The government will give more emphasis to systems of Indian medicine including naturopathy, ayurveda, homoeopathy, Yoga and other ancient traditional medical practices,” he said, adding that a well-bred and healthy human resource is an asset of the nation.

“Overall progress of the nation is possible through a healthy society. Naturopathy and Yoga are the right choices to get rid of various health issues that are derived from modern lifestyles, food and stress. Being strong physically, mentally and socially is the sign of a healthy person,” Rao said.

In his presidential address, Sri Kshetra Dharmastala Dharmadhikari and Rajya Sabha MP D Veerendra Heggade called upon graduates of naturopathy and Yogic sciences to make naturopathy more popular through their practices.

“Advancement in science and technology has reduced the physical labour and thereby people do not get proper exercise and it will cause a lot of health issues among people. Graduates should become good doctors not through their ranks and medals, but through humanitarian services. The aim of all graduates should be to succeed in life through service,” Heggade said.
