Govt panel to check doctors’ cut practice
The state will form a committee to look into ways to check doctors’ cut practice, said medical education department officials late on Saturday.
“The three-member committee will be announced on Monday,” said an official from medical education minister Girish Mahajan’s office. Dr Pravin Shingare of DMER and Dr Abhay Chowdhury, Maharashtra Medical Council’s administrator, will be a part of the panel.
The decision follows a campaign started by heart surgeon Dr Ramakanta Panda’s Asian Heart Institute in BKC. The hospital had put up a hoarding saying: “No commission. Only honest medical opinion’. The Indian Medical Association opposed the hoarding. But the hospital wrote to Mahajan seeking a legislation to fight the practice.
