Formaldehyde scare in baby products

PANAJI: Director of women and child development Deepak Dessai had directed various authorities to take necessary action and submit a report to the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) following reports that baby products manufactured and marketed by an international brand contained elements of formaldehyde.

The directives have been issued to the directorate of health services, food and drugs administration, department of legal metrology, labour and employment and police department.

He said the NCPCR has received findings of the sample testing report from the Rajasthan Drug Control Organisation.

The institute at its Jaipur laboratory found the presence of formaldehyde in baby shampoo of the international company and declared it not of standard quality.

The company also produces baby oils, powders and other products.
