Fake News Buster: No aluminium in most authorised vaccines
The covid-19 vaccines that have been authorized for emergency use in several countries do not contain any aluminum, according to their ingredient lists. This includes the AstraZeneca and Sputnik V vaccines.
Scare-mongers are having a field day with claims on ingredients of the covid vaccine. Some messages on social media said the vaccines contain aluminium that can enter the brain and cause damage.
SO, WHAT’S THE TRUTH?
The covid-19 vaccines that have been authorized for emergency use in several countries do not contain any aluminum, according to their ingredient lists. This includes the AstraZeneca and Sputnik V vaccines.
Some Chinese covid vaccines, as well as some vaccines used against other diseases, use tiny amounts of aluminum to help boost the immune response. This method is safe and the quantity of aluminum is trivial compared to what we encounter elsewhere daily, experts say.
Aluminum has been used in vaccines since the 1930s as an adjuvant, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
