Dengue cases a grave concern in Kalamassery

​As dengue cases continue to escalate in Kalamassery, the LDF councillors held protests alleging that the municipality is failing to effectively monitor the situation and curb the rise in cases. The opposition in Kalamassery also plans to write to the health minister requesting the health department’s intervention to contain the situation.

Kochi: Kalamassery municipality on Friday recorded 17 new dengue cases. The latest data available with the health department of the municipality shows that this month so far, the municipality has recorded 85 dengue cases.

As dengue cases continue to escalate in Kalamassery, the LDF councillors held protests alleging that the municipality is failing to effectively monitor the situation and curb the rise in cases. The opposition in Kalamassery also plans to write to the health minister requesting the health department’s intervention to contain the situation.

“The municipality did not take any precautions despite warnings from the opposition, If the municipality lacks resources, the state govt has ordered to recruit adequate contract staff for containing the spread of the disease, but they are not availing it,” said TA Assainar, the opposition leader of the municipality.

Earlier in June, 150 cases were recorded within the municipality and those who were infected with the disease included several officials of the municipality, and some of the students at Kalamassery Medical College.
