The number of daily Covid-19 cases marginally went down on Thursday in the city. According to the daily health bulletin, Delhi logged 1,603 new infections out of the 5,993 samples that were collected, and the positivity rate went down by 2% to 26.75% compared to Wednesday.
The cumulative death tally of the national capital is 26,581 now. The active case tally now stands at 6,120 and the cumulative Covid cases has reached to 2,029,151.
On Wednesday, the city recorded six deaths, the second time in this year so far. Delhi had logged 1,767 fresh cases which came out of 6,127 samples. The positivity rate stood at 28.63% on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, the city had logged 1,537 fresh cases with a positivity rate of 26.54% and five deaths. On Monday, there were 1,017 cases and the positivity rate had reached to 32.25%.
The number of Covid cases in the city had dropped to zero on January 16 for the first time since the outbreak of the pandemic. However, the city has witnessed a spurt in cases over the last fortnight.
Despite the surge, experts and epidemiologists have maintained that there is no need to panic and that people should adhere to Covid-appropriate behaviour and get their booster shots at the earliest.
As the number of cases have risen, the Delhi High Court has made it compulsory for lawyers, staff and litigants to wear face masks at all times inside the court premises as a precaution, IANS has reported.
The registrar-general of the high court issued a circular on Thursday, urging people not to form groups in common and waiting areas and follow all Covid-appropriate protocol "in letter and spirit" to avoid the spread of the virus.
