Covid cases in Karnataka school cross 100-mark
Amid fresh Covid-19 clusters in the state, chief minister Basavaraj Bommai on Monday said the government is closely monitoring the situation and decide on further containment measures, including closing down schools and hostels, after consulting experts.
The number of Covid cases at a central government-run school in Narasimharajapura taluk in Chikkamagaluru district crossed the 100-mark on Monday, with 35 more students and three staffers testing positive on Monday. On Sunday, 59 students and 10 staffers (teaching and non-teaching) had tested positive for the virus. The cluster was detected when a teacher had tested positive four days ago. In all, 104, including 94 students, have tested positive so far.
There has been a series of cluster outbreaks in educational institutions across the state. “All our concerns will be placed before the Covid-19 technical advisory committee and we will take a decision based on its suggestions,” Bommai said on the sidelines of his campaign in North Karnataka for the December 10MLC polls.
